1. General information
- Application groups are used to logically organize applications and contribute to a clear structure within the NET Genium environment. They typically group applications with the same or similar focus.
- At the application-group level, specific administrators can be defined who are authorized to create, modify, or otherwise adjust applications within that application group. Other administrators cannot make any changes in these applications, even when working in admin mode.
- NET Genium automatically merges application groups with applications if the application group contains only one application with the same name as the application group. This simplifies navigation and eliminates unnecessary structural levels. The merge is evaluated twice, each time based on different applications:
- Carrying over changes between the application group and the application (see the following item) – all applications of the application group count, regardless of rights and including separators. The names are compared in the language of the user who saves the change.
- Display in the navigation area – only the applications the signed-in user can see count. In user mode the application is then not displayed as a separate level and its content is displayed directly under the application group; in admin mode, selecting such an application group switches the navigation area directly to the overview of the application. In the first application group this applies only if the user has no portlets set up; the anonymous user always sees the application level there. In the mobile menu the application level is hidden according to the same rule, but the exceptions for the first application group do not apply there – the application level is hidden there also for a user with portlets and for the anonymous user.
- In the mobile menu, an application group (except the first one) whose only application contains a single view page (directly or in its only category) is moreover displayed as a link to that view page with the name and icon of the application group. The names do not have to match in this case.
- A merged application group and application behave as a single unit – changes are carried over between them in both directions:
- Saving the “New application group” dialog creates, together with the application group, an application with the same name, icons and rights. The application is merged with the application group from the start, so in user mode it is not displayed as a separate level in the navigation area – its content is displayed directly under the application group (with the exceptions listed above). The application is created only when the application group is created in this dialog; neither importing an application group nor writing the implementation model creates it.
- When the name, the icons or the rights of the application group change, the same change is written to the application as well.
- When the name, the icons or the rights of the application change, the same change is written to the application group as well.
- Deleting the application also deletes the application group, unless it is a system application group.
- The icons for managing application groups are displayed in admin mode in the navigation area:
- After expanding the “NET Genium” link with the gear icon – creating a new application group, importing application groups, the order of application groups and exporting application groups. The link is displayed in every application group – “Home page”, “Settings”, etc.; in NET Genium Online only in the “Settings” application group.
- After expanding the link with the name of the application group – creating a new application, importing an application, the order of applications, the application group settings and exporting the application group.
- After clicking the name of an application, the navigation area switches to the overview of that application – the settings, copying and exporting of the application; the icons for creating a new application, importing an application and the order of applications are displayed there as well.
- The icons for importing and exporting applications and application groups are not displayed to any user other than the “Administrator” user with database ID 1.
2. Creating a new application group
- The option to create an application group using the “New application group” icon is available to users with administrator permissions.
- After selecting the “New application group” icon, a dialog with the basic parameters of the new application group is displayed.
- When the dialog is saved, a new application group is created and placed at the end of the application-group order. The order can later be adjusted using the “Sort order of application groups” icon.
3. Import of application group
- Import of a new application group is available through the separate “Import application group” icon, which is intended exclusively for users with the highest permission level, i.e., the “Administrator” user with database ID 1.

4. Order of application groups
- Changing the order of application groups is available to users with administrator permissions.
- After selecting the “Sort order of application groups” icon, a dialog is displayed in which the positions of application groups can be changed.
- An application group can be moved one level up or down, or placed at the first or last position using the double-arrow buttons.
- The configured application-group order is reflected in how the groups are displayed in the NET Genium header.
5. Application group settings
- Configuration of application-group properties is available to all users with administrator permissions through the “Modify application group” icon.
5.1. “General” tab
5.1.1. Name
- The name of the application group displayed in the NET Genium header, and also in the navigation area or menu on mobile devices.
5.1.2. Dictionary
- The dictionary displays a list of application group names, applications, categories, view pages, edit forms, and controls used throughout the application.
- Dictionary search is used to suggest the correct application group name and to maintain consistency of nomenclature throughout the application.
5.1.3. Icon
- The application group icon displayed in the NET Genium header under the application group name, and also in the navigation area or menu on mobile devices.
- In the header the icon is displayed only if it fits, together with the name of the application group, into the height of the application groups bar.
- The first icon is used to display the inactive application group, the second (reverse) is used to display the active application group.
5.2. “Background image” tab
5.2.1. Background image
- The image displayed on the main page of the application group. It is not displayed to the anonymous user on mobile devices.
5.3. “Portlets” tab
- The tab is offered only for the first application group, that is for the group with database ID 1. For the other application groups it is not displayed at all.
- Portlets are displayed on the first application group the user is authorized to access. If the user has no rights to the group with ID 1, the portlets are displayed on another application group with the default ratio of column widths.
5.3.1. Column 1/2
- The width ratio between the first and second columns with the controls displayed in the portlets.
5.3.2. Column 1 + 2/3
- The ratio of the widths between the group of the first and second columns to the third column with the controls displayed in the portlets.
5.4. “Help” tab
- Help is the text displayed in the “Applications (Export)” and “AI model” reports. A detailed description of the reports is provided in the separate guide Reports.
- Help is text displayed inside the overall help of the application within the server variable “#help#”. A detailed description of server variables is provided in the separate guide Variables.
5.5. “Rights” tab
5.5.1. Right s
- Rights define a list of user groups and users who have permission to view the application group.
5.5.2. Show summary...
- View an overview of the rights settings of all child objects – applications, categories, view pages, edit forms and controls.
5.5.3. Admin-mode
- User “Administrator” and users in group “Administrators” – Modification of the application group and its applications can be performed by all users with administrator privileges. The exceptions are system application groups (except the application group with database ID 1) and system applications – these can be modified only by the “Administrator” user with database ID 1.
- User “Administrator” and following administrators – Modification of the application group and its applications can be performed only by the user with the highest authorization – the user “Administrator” with database ID 1, and also selected administrators from the list located below the check box.
5.5.4. “Report” button
- “Report” button – Download a text report with complete application group settings, including applications, view pages and their controls, categories, edit forms and their controls.
5.6. “Save”, “Delete” and “Close” buttons
- “Save” button – Save changes to application group settings.
- “Delete” button – Permanently delete application group. Together with the application group, all its applications are deleted, including categories, view pages and edit forms, the database tables of the edit forms with all their records, and the background image of the application group. The attachment files stored in the records remain on the disk, but nothing refers to them any more. The deletion cannot be undone. A system application group cannot be deleted.
- “Close” button – Close the application group settings dialog without saving changes.
6. Export of application group
- Export of application groups is available only to users with the highest permission level – the “Administrator” user with database ID 1.
