When handling goods in the inventory, it may happen that there is a need to identify a piece with a certain bar code, i.e. to find out what bar code it has – or vice versa, to find out which piece of goods corresponds to the bar code.
The bar code is entered together with the goods into the NET Genium system when it is received in the warehouse by reading it using a bar code reader or by entering it manually (more on this in section Receipt of items in stock). Once a code is entered into the system, it can be changed but cannot be deleted.
NET Genium respects a dual bar code handling system. The first is based on the principle of “one piece – one code”, which means that a unique bar code is associated with each piece of goods. Another mode relates to mass uniform items. These codes are called “uniform bar code” and mean that it is the same for all pieces of the given goods (registered as an inventory item under one code).
If you want to identify some goods with a bar code, the easiest way to do it is in the Stock book view page, which you can find in the INVENTORY module and the application of the same name. View page – or the table shown on it – provides a complete overview of all the movements that took place within the stock with the goods in question, from receipt through restocking to release. It can be expected that each item has at least been received into the warehouse, so it is very likely (with proper goodsd received notes processing) that you will find it in the list.
The table (like all the preview pages) has the option to filter records. The search procedure depends on whether you are looking for a bar code for a specific product or whether you are trying to find out which product a specific bar code belongs to. As you can probably guess by looking at the table, you will be interested in the columns labeled Item and Bar code.
- We find out which piece of goods corresponds to the bar code. If this case occurs, you can proceed as follows:
- Select Custom... from the drop-down menu (under the column heading) A filter window will appear.
- Enter the barc ode in the Bar code contains condition. Press Save.
- The table should display the item you are looking for – either an inventory item (if it is an item with a uniform bar code) or an individual piece of goods belonging to the inventory item.
- To cancel the filter, click the Reset filters icon.
- We have the goods and we are looking for a bar code.
- In this case, we search in the Item column. Therefore, select the Custom... option again from the drop-down menu and in the open filter window.
- Write part of the item name in the Item contains condition. After pressing the Save button, all records matching the given condition should be displayed. You can already select a given item from them, or – if there are still quite a large number of them – you can add additional conditions. It is enough to select the correct column, from the drop-down menu belonging to the given column select either a straight condition or the item Custom..., press the button Add condition in the conditions window and define the given condition.
- Pressing the Save button narrows down the resulting list even more.
